KynderMed operates as a virtual company with members in Tallahassee and Saint Petersburg, Florida. In the short-term, most needs are satisfied via consultants (regulatory, clinical studies, manufacturing, finance development, design, etc.) or contracted service organizations. This enables KynderMed to engage the best available resources on an efficient and effective “as-needed” basis.

KynderMed is in the process of selecting candidates for the Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Board.



melanieMelanie Simmons PhD, President and CEO

Melanie has a PhD in behavioral science with over 10 years of experience in the perinatal field. She is a published researcher in the areas of maternal and child health and brings the same attention to detail to the position of CEO. She has participated in startups and is an angel investor. Melanie also has run a family business and was a professional financial advisor. Melanie received her PhD from Florida State University.




Don Rosenkoetter, Executive Chair of the Board
Don has successfully launched more than 10 drug, medical device, or home health care products into the same channels KynderMed is pursuing while also achieving insurance reimbursement for the drugs and devices. Don’s experience comes from his dozen years working in senior positions with Eli Lilly and G.D.Searle / Pfizer followed by twenty years of consulting to major multinationals (including GSK, Kimberly Clark, US Surgical and Bayer), start-ups, governments, and NGOs. His focus has been on strategy combined with the identification, acquisition and commercialization of emergent technologies. He sits on the Florida State Research Foundation Grant Committee and has served as a commercial advisor to the NIH, WHO, and the Gates Foundation. Don received his MBA from Southern Methodist University.



James Olcese, Ph.D., Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. James Oclese is the inventor of the technology Cerulean Sleep and a leading authority on melatonin. In addition to his current appointment as Associate Professor of Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience and Molecular Biophysics at Florida State University, his background includes serving as a professor and group leader for The Hormone & Fertility Research Institute at the University of Hamburg Medical School in Hamburg, Germany. He has authored over 100 peer reviewed articles and is an a acknowledged expert in the areas of circadian rhythms and neuroendocrine mechanisms. James received his B.S. in Biology from Emory and Ph.D. in Physiology from Marquette.



Alan Curtis, Regulatory Affairs Consultant

Alan is a regulatory consultant who has the unique distinction of having successfully taken numerous medical devices in both women’s health and light therapy through the FDA approval process, from strategy through approval. In addition to having run his own consulting firm for 10 years, he has served as interim VP of Regulatory Affairs for Viveve, and VP Regulatory / Clinical / Quality for Aragon Surgical. Prior to consulting, Alan held various senior corporate positions including VP Regulatory / Clinical / Quality Systems at SURx and Director of Regulatory Affairs / Clinical Affairs / Quality Systems at HeraeusSurgical / Laserscope. Alan received his B.S. in Microbiology from California State University – Hayward.

Justin Bushko, PMP – Product Development Lead

Justin is a well seasoned Project Manager with over 15 years of experience. He has experience in design, manufacturing, project management and program management in various industries related to instrumentation. He has significant experience in medical device manufacturing and design working for Smith & Nephew, ConMed and Drager. Justin received a BSEE from Grove City College and and MBA from the University of South Florida.
